A few years ago I began working on things I can only describe as ‘word props’ and began to collage them together as by products into a series of cut-ups and calligraphic marks. Whilst I hesitate to call them paintings, I see them both inside and outside of the languages they are attempting to contain, and to realise the deconstructed arrangement into something pictorial, material, and familiarly allusive. Like most things paraphrasing has something to do with it, or playing with the earnestness of representation etc… mouse cheese. You have to see it to taste it.
